Spring Forward - Refresh Your Skin For Spring

Spring clean your skin care regimen.
Tis the season for spring cleaning. It’s a season where we toss out the old to make room for the new. We shake off the symbolic layers of winter and get ready to bloom.
You don’t have to stop with dusting and purging your house to reap the full benefits of spring cleaning. Your skin care regimen needs a boost, too. Here’s how to transition from winter to spring with fresh, fabulous skin.
Purge
Spring cleaning is a great opportunity to purge old cosmetics and skin care products. These products do have a shelf life. Old, outdated products can harbor bacteria and lose their effectiveness.
Check the dates on your products. You may want to toss the following:
  • Anything past the expiration date
  • Products that appear dry or crusty
  • Anything that has changed consistency, color, or smell
  • Anything with an SPF older than one year (SPF loses its effectiveness over time and it’s just not worth the risk.)
  • Mascara older than three months. (Always toss it after three months, regardless of how much there is remaining.)
  • Old, dirty make-up brushes and sponges
Exfoliate
The cold, dry days of winter may be over, but your dry, flaky skin remains. Spring is a good time for deep exfoliation and cleansing. During winter, much of our skin is “out of sight, out of mind.” Long pants, long sleeves, and warm socks may have prevented you from seeing the rough, dry skin building up on your feet, knees, and elbows. Slough off that old layer of dry skin and make room for spring.
Here’s a home exfoliation remedy that will leave your skin feel smooth, soft, and ready for skirts and sandals:
  • Mix 2 cups of brown sugar with 1 cup of olive oil
  • Scrub the entire body with a circular motion, paying extra attention to rough, dry patches of skin.
  • Rinse and moisturize.
For a deep cleansing facial mask that is sure to leave your complexion glowing, combine:
  • 1 teaspoon plain yogurt
  • 1 teaspoon honey
  • ½ of an unripe papaya
Mix the ingredients in a food processor or blender and then apply to your face for 8 to10 minutes. Rinse and moisturize.
Transition
Adjust your skin care routine to reflect the seasonal changes that come with spring. A few changes necessitated by spring:
  • Switch to a lighter moisturizer. Higher temperatures result in oilier skin for everyone, not just those with a tendency to oily skin. It’s important to use a lighter moisturizer during spring. If you prefer not to switch to a new moisturizer, you can try mixing some rosewater into your thick, winter moisturizer.
  • Exfoliate more often. Depending on the climate and your skin type, you may need to exfoliate more often in the spring and summer.
  • Lighten up. For spring and summer, use a lighter foundation and lighter, brighter make-up colors. The dull, drab days of winter are behind you—freshen up!
  • Sunscreen. Sunscreen is important all year, but imperative in the spring and summer when more of your skin is exposed for longer periods of time. Stay vigilant with sunscreen.
Here’s to spring skin that is as fresh and bright as the blooming flowers.

Be Beautifully YOU!! - Style is a Personal Journey

Style is personal. There is no herd to follow. There are no rules. There are no seasons.
Style comes from within, from knowing who you are and who you want to be; not from wanting to be somebody else, or wanting to be thinner, shorter, taller, prettier.

Many of the most stylish women in the world have not been great beauties - think Lauren Hutton with her gap-toothed smile or Barbra Streisand and her Grecian nose - but have drawn from an enormous amount of self-confidence.

They made us think they were beautiful simply by believing it themselves.

All this sounds great in theory, but finding your own style can be a daunting prospect.

Which is why I've come up with some style basics that will have you looking - and, most importantly, feeling - fashion fabulous in no time.

How many items in your wardrobe do you actually wear?

How many of those make you feel good about yourself? And how many times have you looked in that wardrobe and said: "I have nothing to wear!"?

Your wardrobe should contain only amazing choices - it is much easier to be inspired when you see five remarkable pieces than when you see 25 pieces and 20 of those are unremarkable.

Pick key items and get rid of the rest, even if it is the "must-have" item of the season, or you spent a week's salary on it in 1999, or you wore it every day of your teenage years and "can't bear to part with it".

If it doesn't look good on you now, it shouldn't be there.
Start by throwing out anything you no longer wear or that doesn't look good on you. Be ruthless.

It's easier said than done, so make yourself a deal: for every 20 items you chuck, you can buy one killer piece.

When you're buying, buy the right size.

Don't buy a smaller one because you're planning on losing weight, or because you don't like the idea that you're a size 16.

And be wary of bargains.

Paying $100 for a pair of jeans that cost $200 is a great deal.

But if you are never going to wear them, don't need them, or don't even particularly like them, that's a very expensive deal.

Steer clear of trends.

If everyone is wearing bright yellow mini-dresses but you don't look good in yellow or minidresses, why buy one? Wear what suits you and what makes you comfortable.

Comfortable doesn't have to mean boring. Don't play it too safe.

You should wake up in the morning and be inspired by what is in your wardrobe: 20 black skirts tend to offer little inspiration; one white beaded vintage skirt offers a lot.

THE BARE BONES

Now you've cleared out your wardrobe, it's time to invest in the bare bones, if you don't own them already.

These are essential staples that go with almost anything and never go out of style - a blank canvas that you can layer on to.

The Little Black Dress: Popularised by Coco Chanel, this is the ultimate blank canvas. Slimming and flattering, it's simple enough to make you look effortlessly stylish, yet sophisticated enough to make you look endlessly elegant.

A Classic White Shirt: It has a crisp simplicity that makes it practical and unpretentious. Jackie Onassis paired hers with jeans, Uma Thurman went for black trousers, and Audrey Hepburn teamed hers with a long skirt.

Cashmere Cardigan or Round-neck: Cashmere instantly imbues luxury when worn over anything, but is also incredibly sexy when worn alone, a la Marilyn Monroe.

A Trench Coat: Not just for rainy days, a trench goes with almost anything. Best of all, it makes you instantly mysterious. Wear with big sunglasses to really channel your inner spy.

Denim: Jeans are the most versatile item. Simple and practical, sexy and perfect, rebellious and elegant, they can dress anything down and make even the most uptight items look relaxed.

A Man's Watch: Women's watches tend to change according to trends, but a classic man's watch is timeless and looks great on a woman's wrist. It makes a statement and breaks the rules in an unexpected but subtle way.

Diamonds: You can't go wrong here. Perfect for day or night, casual or dressy, winter or summer, with other jewels, or not. Fake is fine.

Ballet Flats: For driving, mad dashes for flights, the first day of the sales, or any occasion when you have to give your heels the boot in the name of practicality.

A High-Heeled Pump: Sometimes you want outrageous, impractical, bold shoes. But sometimes, a reliable classic black high-heeled pump that won't clash with your dress, or prospective in-laws, is what's required.

A Great Bag (or four): Statement bags are great, but you also need the classics: a tote or shoulder bag for day and carrying almost everything; a clutch for night and carrying around almost nothing; a medium-sized handbag, with a chain-link strap, for those times in between; and, treat yourself to a must-have - Chanel, Louis Vuitton Speedy, Gucci's Jackie O, or the Hermes Birkin, just because . . .

THE DRAMA

Now you have your basics, it's time to inject your own sense of style with some truly fantastic pieces - a decadent, oversized cocktail ring, a vintage beaded dress that fits you perfectly, a leopard-print coat - spend your money on these one-of-a-kind, dramatic pieces.

Don't just go crazy for the trends. If you do happen to fall in love with a trend, buy it now but wait a few years until it is "out of style" to wear it.

The best time to buy is when you are travelling - something exotic that nobody else will have back home and can usually be picked up for next to nothing, because while fashion may be expensive, style doesn't have to be.

Ironically, it is often the people with less money who seem to understand style best.

Maybe because they cannot slavishly follow trends, or because they consider purchases more carefully, or perhaps because they perfect the art of mixing expensive items with cheaper finds.

So check out flea markets, H&M, Uniqlo and vintage bargains (cheapest of all when "borrowed" from your mum's wardrobe).

As well as mixing Mango and Marc Jacobs, think about other unusual juxtapositions.

Unpredictable is what is going to make you look different.

Try diamonds with ethnic beads, stripes and checks, leather and lace, masculine with feminine.

It takes time and trial to perfect but these "imperfect" mixes are what style is about.

THE FINISHING TOUCHES

Basics and drama will take you so far, but accessories maketh the woman. Start with shoes.
Blahnik, Louboutin, Vivier, Choo and Alaia can all be depended upon for a perfect quality shoe.

Even if you have to save for years to afford a single pair, do it.

Perfect shoes deserve perfect feet - chipped polish and cracked heels are not a good look.

Toe cleavage is often overlooked but it matters - two cracks only should be on show (i.e. only showing the divide between your first three toes).

Don't go too high; if you can't walk, you will look ridiculous.

And be wary of teaming very high heels with a very short skirt - hardly anyone can pull this off without looking like a tramp.

Other accessories should be equally carefully chosen - they pull an outfit together and tell the world how cool, elegant and sophisticated you are.

Think Jackie O and her sunglasses or Audrey Hepburn and her scarf.

Choose accessories as you would friends, seeking out the ones that complement you, make you feel confident, and stick by you through ups and downs, men, and extra pounds.

The key is keeping it personal - your grandmother's pendant or a bracelet from Mexico - and keeping it tasteful.

Think big necklace or big earrings, not both.

Your wardrobe of finishing touches, should also include a good tailor who can make anything look expensive by making it fit you perfectly.

So get them to revamp older items, shorten trousers but keep the same finish and turn vintage finds into one-of-a-kind keepsakes.

Finally, remember style is not about being perfect.

It's the Kate Moss factor. She never looks like she is trying too hard.

Something is always a bit off: her hair is messy, her accessories don't match, her shirt is
rumpled. Yet she always looks amazing.

Perfection is over-rated.

Looking like you're always ready for a photoshoot is not style. Looking like you know how to live, how to have fun and how to let your hair down is.

STYLE TIPS FROM THE EXPERTS

Ralph Lauren: "Breaking rules is what makes clothes interesting. I love mixing fabrics and shapes in unexpected ways - classic with modern, rugged with elegant."

John Galliano: "Glamour today is confidence, independence, not giving a damn, going for it and indulging your desires - in fashion, life and living."

Donatella Versace: "The most valuable item in your wardrobe is not a piece of clothing; it is an accessory. With a quick switch of a handbag or a pair of shoes, you can instantly change your look and mood."

Heidi Klum: "Wear something you feel gorgeous in and don't try too hard; it's much sexier when it appears effortless. Clothes that don't fit, or don't fit the wearer's personality, don't help."

Giorgio Armani: "Elegance is the result of a natural equilibrium between simplicity, looking after oneself and intelligence. All this generates the attitude we call elegance. It is a quality which, contrary to popular belief, does not require deep pockets."

Elle Macpherson: "Find a personal style by not following trends. I have worn jeans, a white T-shirt, a cashmere jumper and knee-high, cowboy or motorcycle boots, or ballet flats for 25 years. The shape of the jeans changes and that's about it. There is something disquieting about clothing schizophrenia."

Zac Posen: "Dress to make an entrance the same way you dress to make an exit: with aplomb, shoulders back and a withheld secret."

Oceane Beauty - Care for the Body, Mind, & Soul!

Oceane Beauty caters to those who are seeking to rejuvenate their youthful appearance and to defy the aging process, those who want to feel as if they have just stepped out of the most exclusive spa, and those who want to look at their best.
For years, our research & development team, comprised of world renowned skin-care experts, has been trying to formulate that “perfect formula” that will reverse time, defy the aging process, and minimize the signs of premature aging. After many years and large capital investments we are proud to announce that we have found the fountain of youth: Oceane Beauty.
The two key ingredients that make the Oceane line stand tall above the competition is Pearl Powder and Marine Plant Stem Cells, both well known for their age defying and beautifying properties.
Pearl Powder is an ancient beauty ingredient that has been used for over 3000 years by Asians, Egyptians, Chinese, Mayans and Indians for radiant, bright, glowing, and healthy looking, beautiful skin as well as a remedy for a variety of skin ailments. Pearl Powder is rich in vitamins, minerals, and amino acids. In addition to its beautifying and anti-aging properties, Pearl Powder is also considered by many Asian traditions to stimulate healing, clear toxins from the human body, improve hair shine & strength, enhance cell metabolism, and contribute to one’s overall well-being.
Pearl Powder is known as a super exfoliator as it naturally removes dead skin from the top layer of the skin. This natural, controlled exfoliation process will allow other age-defying ingredients to penetrate better and deeper into the skin for superior long lasting results.
While the benefits of Pearl Powder are well documented, the main benefits are:
  • Pearl Powder softens and firms radiant, youthful Skin.
  • Pearl Powder for centuries has been known for its skin brightening and lightening properties.
  • Pearl Powder assists the body in regeneration of Collagen.
  • Pearl powder assists in healing Acne, Scars, and other skin disorders.
  • Pearl powder assists in reducing the visibility of lines, wrinkles, sagging skin, and other signs of premature aging.
  • Pearl powder reduces large pores, increases skin elasticity, and makes skin more flexible.
In addition to Pearl Powder, the other key ingredient clinically researched to provide anti-aging benefits is Marine Plant Stem Cells (extracts, rather than live stem cells). Marine Plant Stem Cell technology is the most cutting-edge innovation in the beauty and skin-care industry. It stimulates cells regeneration and provides unparalleled anti-aging benefits. Sea plants were the first organism to come out of the water millions of years ago and thus had to face the constraints of the terrestrial condition such as dehydration, sun exposure, fierce climate changes, and other extreme conditions. To survive, sea plants have developed unique mechanisms to adjust and adapt to these fiercely challenging conditions and to maintain their hydration levels in order to survive and grow.

The Secret To Radiant Skin

1. Exfoliate

Sure, you've heard that exfoliating your skin is important, but to achieve glowing skin, it is a must. Try exfoliators that contain alpha hydroxy acids, such as glycolic acid. Try this: Oceane White Pearl Facial Peeling Gel
Note: At-home peels are another effective path to smoother, more even-toned skin and generally contain up to 30 percent glycolic acid, whereas a dermatologist can use up to 70 percent concentrations for more dramatic results.

2. Detox your body

It is true: The outside of your body reflects what's going on inside of it. Skin conditions develop when the skin can't do its job of eliminating toxins efficiently, which happens because the other eliminative organs are overloaded as well. Talk to a natural health care professional to find a detox program that works for you, or take a load off your system and benefit your skin by doing the following:
  • Drink warm lemon water each day to help flush toxins from the body.
  • Cut out sugar and alcohol for a few days (at least five) to give your body and skin a break.
  • Up your intake of fresh fruits and vegetables to boost the amount of skin-saving nutrients you're getting.
  • Limit salty snacks, which can cause swelling and water retention.

3. Apply topical nutrition

Two great antioxidant boosters are green tea and grape seed extract. "These powerful bioflavonoids play a unique role in protecting vitamin C from oxidation, thereby allowing your skin to reap more benefits from it," explains Amy Chalmers, CDT andUSANA Health Sciences spokesperson. "They also play an additional role in helping skin look younger and brighter as they defend against elements such as sun, stress and pollution that can damage collagen and accelerate the visible signs of aging."

4. Try coconut oil

Virgin coconut oil has the ability to restore and rejuvenate damaged skin. It heals, repairs and leaves your skin radiant. Coconut oil has excellent antioxidant properties and helps to destroy free radicals. It also can even out your skin tone, giving it a more healthy-looking texture and a subtle glow.

5. Use radiance-boosting makeup

Try the celebrities' secret to glowing skin to get that "lit from within" look: Apply an illuminating cream under your makeup. Bronzers are also excellent for creating a healthy glow. Choose an illuminating shade rather than a matte one and apply it everywhere the sun hits your face, including your forehead, nose and cheeks.

6. Get your daily dose of vitamin C

Vitamins for skin are so important, particularly vitamin C, which is the key to achieving a bright, even complexion. "The brightening qualities of this well-known vitamin make it the perfect companion for anyone struggling with age spots, sun damage or those who just want a makeup-free pick me up," Ferrill says. It should also be noted that when vitamin C and vitamin E are taken together internally, they have been shown to increase the ability of the skin to protect itself from sun damage. It has even been hypothesized that this combination might give your skin a natural sun protection (SPF) of 2, she says. "While this is no excuse to ditch the sunscreen, it is a great way to give your skin a fighting chance against the damaging rays of the sun. Look for products that combine vitamin C with gentle exfoliants and natural skin brighteners like bearberry, licorice, mulberry and brightening peptides."

7. Suck on an ice cube

Did you know that sucking on an ice cube chills all of the millions of cells in your cheeks and lips, causing an increase in circulation, and resulting in plumper, more rosy-looking skin? Well, according to Annie Tevelin, founder of SkinOwl, it's true! "This is a great glow-fix mid-dinner or before taking a picture to restore fatigued skin to a more peaches and cream complexion."

8. Try juicing

We're sure you've heard that glowing skin begins with what you eat, but when you're a busy girl on the go (like us) how the heck are you supposed to get in all your fruits and veggies? Easy, try juicing! Jayna DiMartino, California Educator for HydroPeptide, says she fills her diet with nutrient rich superfoods, such as kale, broccoli, spinach, rainbow chard, celery, cucumber, ginger and beets, by juicing. "Traveling as much as I do, it's not always easy finding a Whole Foods or a juice bar so I make sure to take my green meal capsules with all the dark leafy greens and spirulina," she notes.

9. Remember: Vitamins B and D are key

Vitamin B not only increases blood flow to your cells, but it's also integral to skin generation and slowing the signs of aging, notes celebrity makeup artist Julia Papworth. "An increase in vitamin B in the system translates to a decrease in redness and irritation in the skin." Additionally, Jolie Martin, director and laser skincare expert at New York City's SKINNEY Medspa, suggests taking vitamin D. "If deficient in vitamin D, skin can appear sallow and more prone to congestion and breakouts," she says.

10. Get some beauty sleep

Sleep affects your physical and mental well being. "When you sleep, you're allowing your body to begin the proper healing process," Chalmers says. "Try a melatonin supplement to help regulate your natural sleep cycles and get your body back on track." This will, in turn, lead to glowing skin.
Tip: Jackie Burns Brisman, senior editor at spafinder.com, recommends the following vitamins for skin to enhance your complexion and give you that gorgeous glow:
  • Omega-3 fatty acids: salmon, spinach and walnuts
  • Vitamin C: citrus fruits, chili peppers, bell peppers, dark leafy greens, broccoli
  • Vitamin E: almonds, squash and grape seed oil
  • Zinc: Greek yogurt
  • Vitamin A: yams and sweet potatoes
  • Lycopene: a great antioxidant found in tomatoes

Winter Ready Skin

Our skin’s needs vary with the seasons and to keep your complexion in tip-top shape, here are six smart “do’s”:

1. Slough it off
Most likely, your skin has been exposed to the sun’s wrath this summer. Days at the beach and picnics in the park are good times but not necessarily good for your skin. Additionally, the build up of sunscreen on your face may have clogged your pores leaving your skin dull and a little rough around the edges. Twice a week (don’t go overboard), try sloughing up some of the dead skin with an exfoliating scrub to reveal a brighter complexion.

2. Kinder Cleansers
With the summer heat, you may have found your skin to be oilier than usual so using a deeper-cleansing face wash was appropriate. As the heat subsides and fall kicks in, you will need to start cleansing with gentler solution that removes dirt but doesn’t strip your skin of its natural oils.

3. Mega Moisturizers
Lightweight was the name of the game in summer. But with the dryness of fall, you will need to slather up with something a little more heavy duty. If your skin still feels too oily wearing a night cream at bedtime, then only apply in dry areas. Don’t forget sunscreen during the day as the sun’s rays still penetrate through the clouds. Also, look out for Vitamins A, C & E as these provide excellent sources of antioxidants, help neutralize the sun’s damage and help to prevent aging.

4. Mask it
Facial masks are a great way to treat your skin and give yourself a mini facial in a matter of minutes! Facial Masks have its roots in Asia, China, Japan, and Egypt, exotic locales renowned for their rich concoction of fresh herb, fruit, and flower extracts as ingredients. In Europe, royalties used precious stones and gems, like Gold and Tourmaline, for their skin.
Most masks today usually contain ingredients that add moisture and hydration back into the skin–clay, aloe vera, algae, essential oils, seaweed and vitamins—that were depleted in the summer’s heat.

5. Eyes Cream, You Scream
Your eyes can’t keep a secret. Although they are the windows to the soul, they are also the first to show signs of stress and aging. A richer eye cream for fall can help combat some of the signs of too much summer fun—puffiness, dark circles, sun damage—while also help prevent a cold weather culprit—dryness. Look for eye creams that target your specific concerns.

6. Get Your Mist on!
A hydrating mist is always one of my summer beauty essentials, however, this is one item that easily translates form the heat of summer to the cold of winter. Using a hydrating mist is great for refreshing the skin, protecting it from the elements and sets your makeup. Applying the hydrating mist throughout the day adds an intense moisture boost and nourishes the skin with aloe vera, Vitamin C, and shea butter, to name a just few popular ingredients. Looking revitalized and radiant has never been so easy!

The Lady in Red - How to Rock Red Lips

1. Match your skin tone.  According to Surratt, true red work best on a pale face, while olive skin calls for brown-reds or mahogany shades.  Also if your teeth are yellow, a red lipstick with blue undertones will make them look whiter.

2. Test on your lips. Most women try out lipstick on their hands, but that's often a different shade than your face. Head to a makeup counter or Sephora to test directly on your lips, scraping a bit of color off with a Q-tip.

3. Trust your instincts. If you're not sure where to start when choosing a red, trust the shades you are first attracted to. Surratt believes we are often drawn to the colors that look best on us. If that fails, he recommends Kevyn Aucoin's Sheer Red as a shade almost anyone can wear.

4. Keep other makeup subtle. While smoky eyes and crimson lips look great for a fancy, nighttime occasion, everyday red lips should be accompanied by a subtle, natual-looking face. Surratt advises this subtle treatment for eyes: Apply mascara, curl lashes and keep brows well-shaped.

5. Give yourself time to get used to it. If red lipstick is a huge departure from your normal look, make an effort to glance at yourself in the mirror as often as you can on the first day of your new look. This will help your eyes adjust to seeing yourself that way. If that fails…

6. Ease into it. Too timid to go for all-out red? Try a more subtle gloss or stain. Surratt suggests Vincent Longo's Liquid Kiss or Tarte's Rhett & Scarlett.

7. Decide on your shine level. Glossy or matte? A moister lip looks more modern (Surratt like Revlon's Moisturous Red Monsoon), but a matte formula stays on your lips longer and won't feather. Experiment to find the right one for you.

8. Use a neutral liner. Although using a lip liner in a different shade than your lipstick sounds counterintuitive, Surratt says it gives you the freedom to fill out thin lips. Choose a shade that matches your natural lip color.

9. Apply it correctly. Surratt advises this method: Line and fill in lips with liner. Apply lipstick from the tube or using a lip brush (which eases color into tiny lip lines) over the liner. Blot once with a tissue, and lightly dust with face powder. Apply one more coat of lipstick, and you're set.

10. Go for more red. Although it may be too bold a look for some, Surratt loves the "eternally chic" look of red lips matched with red nails.

The Power of a SMILE :-)

This is a fun post about smiling. Why fun? Well let’s face it, when we’re smiling we are normally having a pretty good time!

Smiling is number 2 on the list of the 43 Habits of Absolutely Happy People. If you can turn smiling into a habit, then you can turn happiness into a habit… let’s explore!

1) You’re More Attractive!
Do you want to be more attractive? Simple. Smile! Research has proven that we find others more attractive when they are wearing a smile. This one is a no-brainer, but for the sake of helping it land in your mind, think about someone who you know and think of first when they are down, sad, angry, frustrated, whatever it may be. How attractive are they? Now picture them simply with a smile on their face. What does this do to their attractiveness? If you took the time to do this exercise, I’m sure you would have easily found the smiling version much more attractive, and maybe this even made you feel a happy tingle inside yourself! This leads to my next point.

2) You Can CHANGE THE WORLD! A Smile is Contagious!
Have you ever been in a sour mood and then someone has come along with a huge smile, some laughter or in a really good mood? Perhaps a baby that just looked up at you and smiled? How did this make you feel? When the person you are talking to or the people that surround you are smiling, you won’t be able to help but smile!

A smile has special powers. You can calm fear, insecurity, hurt and anxiety not only in yourself, but in those that are experiencing those feelings. The next time someone is feeling sad, scared, nervous, whatever it may be, smile with them and see how this makes them feel!

Even 2Pac, the rap legend that passed away realised the benefits of smiling, in his lyrics to ‘Power of a Smile’ he raps:
The power of a gun can kill, and the power of fire can burn
The power of wind can chill, and the power of mind can learn
The power of anger, can raise inside until it tears you apart
But the power of a smile, especially yours, can heal a frozen heart

A smile is a contagious thing. Give to the world and the world will give back to you. Smile at the world and the world will smile back at you. You will brighten the days of those around and make a difference in their lives… simply by smiling!

3) Grow Old Sexily!
Wrinkles, wrinkles, wrinkles! Something that we all don’t want to have, however it is something that comes to us all leaving permanent marks of our emotional feelings throughout life. Smiling throughout life will NOT mean you won’t get wrinkles… I wish it did! It WILL however mean that you will have permanent marks of happiness and when you speak with those later in life, you will automatically be smiling!

You also use fewer muscles to smile than you do for frowning. Hopefully you’re smiling now as you read this, but if not, smile now! … Now that you have tried smiling, try and frown. Which one do you think is easier? I would definitely say smiling is the easier of the two, and therefore stretching your muscles and skin less throughout life to grow old sexily!

4) Simply Feel Good!
When you’re smiling, no doubt you’re having a much better time than when you’re not! Smiling simply makes you feel better!

Research has shown that smiling releases serotonin – a neurotransmitter that produces feelings of happiness and wellbeing. It’s like a circle of happiness. Smile and you feel happy, you feel happy and you smile! Even when you’re not feeling great, try smiling, genuinely, and see how you feel!

5) Build Better, Faster Relationships!
Smiling is such a key ingredient for establishing healthy and genuine friendships. When someone is smiling at you it indicates that they like you. When someone likes you what do you think of them? Yep, normally you’re thinking “wow, I like this person!” Smiling also offers encouragement to the person that you are talking to. Think about it, if someone is smiling at you while you are talking to them, you feel as though they are totally into what you are saying, encouraging you to keep going!

Smiling is crucial when it comes to first impressions. Smiling when you first meet someone will indicate to the other person that you are genuinely happy to see them and that you are a positive person. These impressions will be lasting on the other person so definitely not one to miss!

6) Enhance your Business!
Business deals can be made simply through smiling. One of the first things that sales people quickly learn is to smile. Who would you rather buy something from? The sales rep that looks bored, down, angry, frustrated or whatever it may be, or from the sales rep that is simply smiling and happy to see you? The messages that they convey in conversation will link back to how they are feeling. A smiling person would be much more enthusiastic for the product and instill positive feelings in the buyer.

Even telesales have got a hold on this. Now sales reps that are on the other side of the phone are encouraged to smile when they talk as the smile is conveyed in how the person is talking!

Action Plan
1) Smile!
It can’t be that hard, can it?
2) Visualize your happiest moments
A number of people will say that they find it hard to smile due to circumstances in their life. Research has shown that our thoughts and feelings influence our behaviours. As this is the case, I encourage you to close your eyes and think of the moments that have made you laugh and smile. How does this make you feel? These visualization exercises are great for helping you smile.
3) Just do it!
Further research has now flipped the above completely on its head and suggested that our behaviours can actually influence our thoughts and feelings! As this is the case, I encourage you to JUST DO IT! Simply forcing a smile will give you the benefits of the above. Stand up straight, work on your posture, smile to the world and ‘fake it till you make it’! It WILL work!
